CNY Tournament Deadline Fast Approaching
Update: In order to accommodate the increased amount of entrants, the Chinese New Year (CNY) tournament will be starting promptly at 5:30pm and will run til 11:00pm on Friday, Feb. 12.
The deadline for registration in the Chinese New Year (CNY) Tournament is fast approaching. The deadline for registration and payment of your deposit is the end of the gym night on Tuesday, Feb. 9. We hope to release the draws for each of the event hopefully before Wednesday, Feb. 10.
If you are still on the fence on whether to participate consider this:
- this tournament is MEMBERS-only
- prizes for winners and draw prizes
- play competitive badminton in a friendly, social atmosphere
- guaranteed at minimum 2-matches per event

Olympics Countdown
With the Olympics coming to town in a little over 2 weeks (17 days to be exact!) there are some changes that everyone should be aware of:
- No badminton club during the 2 week reading break. Reading week is from Monday, February 15 to Friday, February 26, 2010
- Translink is introducing numerous bus changes Feb 1 (i.e. next week). Specifically, Wesbrook Mall from University Blvd to 16th Ave will no longer serve buses. Any bus that previously traveled this route will be routed either via University + Blanca (25, 33) or NW Marine Drive (41, 43, 49, 480). - The Olympic Torch will be arriving in UBC on Feb. 11 where free celebrations are planned (live entertainment, beer garden, etc.). Check out this page for more details.

To celebrate Chinese New Years, we are hosting a members-only tournament! Still unsure if you want to participant? Will here's some food for thought: the tournament is completely free for members, there's going to be fun competition, and there are prizes to be won for both the top finishers of each event as well as door prizes!
When: Friday, Feb 12 @ 5:30-11pm
Events: Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles
Deposit: In order to prevent no-shows, we require a $10 deposit per team. Deposit will be returned to you upon check-in at the tournament.
Registration Deadline: Feb 9 @ 7:30 (deposit + registration via online form)

As space is limited, entries will be on a first-come first-served basis. Your registration is deemed as complete once you register online AND pay your deposit. Please note that the entire gym will be reserved for tournament-play (e.g. no drop-in).
Rules:
- You may play a maximum of two events
- You may not play two of the same event (e.g. play Mixed with two different partners)
- You are guaranteed a minimum of two matches (no guarantee of rest between games)

Winter Badminton Championships
UBC Rec is hosting their annual winter badminton championships on February 4th at the Student Rec Center (SRC). The registration deadline is Jan. 29, 2009. More details can be found here.
As a member of the UBC Badminton Club, you will receive a partial reimbursement of your tournament registration fee. The deadline for submitting your reimbursements is February 4th (the day of the tournament). Please submit your reimbursement by sending an email to ubc.badm@gmail.com with the following information: your name, events you are playing, and membership number.
New Website
What do you think of the new site? Although the page is currently hosted at ubcbadm.vlexofree.com, going to our old url of www.ams.ubc.ca/clubs/badminton will automatically redirect you to this current site. AMS was being cheap and provided us with a rather abysmal hosting service.
